Since 1995, Arctic Air has been producing quality, affordable refrigeration products to the commercial equipment market in the United States and Canada. Arctic Air is a division of Broich Enterprises, Inc. and was created as a quality, lower cost alternative to the standard commercial refrigeration products offered at the time. Since that time, Arctic Air products have come to be known as very reliable alternatives for many common commercial applications.

In 2012, Arctic Air products underwent a major design change by upgrading our product line from a white painted steel exterior to a much higher grade stainless steel exterior. In addition, product operation and performance has been vastly improved in order to better meet the demands of the commercial foodservice industry. Arctic Air is now able to offer a commercial product line with better recovery times, greater reliability, and easier maintenance/repair at a truly incredible price.

In order to ensure the reliable performance that commercial foodservice operators demand, our products are subject to numerous quality control inspections throughout the manufacturing process and all units are operated & monitored for a minimum of 13 hours before being packaged and shipped.

We hope you like the new Arctic Air! Stainless Design. Stellar Performance. Superior Value. Things have never looked better.
Controlling condensation and moisture on refrigeration cold-water lines is essential for long-term thermal performance. While condensation and moisture are known as culprits in mold growth, they also have a significant impact on system efficiency as moisture degrades the performance of the insulating material.

Selecting closed-cell elastomeric foams, like AP ArmaFlex®, is one sure way to prevent moisture (and therefore heat gain) from invading the piping system. Not only does closed-cell foam insulation possess a low permeability rating, but it is also much less vulnerable to punctures and tears that can impair the thermal effectiveness of open cell and fibrous materials.

Why is condensation a problem?

If moisture intrudes the insulating material surrounding cold-water piping, efficiency is lost. If the temperature surrounding the piping drops below the dew point, condensation will form on the pipes. The presence of moisture not only robs the system of its thermal efficiency, it provides suitable conditions for mold and mildew.

Attributes:
Low permeability, controls condensation

No additional vapor retarder needed

Resists growth of mold and mildew

Maintains thermal integrity

Armacell’s AP ArmaFlex foam insulation is available in tubes and continuous coils for easy installation on refrigeration cold water lines.

We’ve survived many challenges -- within our industry and within our organization -- and have emerged stronger and hopefully wiser with each challenge.

By God’s Grace we will...

Grow
Relentlessly Improve
Passionately Serve Our Customers and Fellow Employees
Enduring Values
Our company is built on a platform of three core values:

Integrity,
Excellence, and
Profound Respect for the Individual.
Adherence to these values has helped solidify our position as a world leader in our areas of expertise.

Guiding Principles
Customer focused
Led with excellence
A leader in technology
Committed to growth
A great place to work
Known by our values
Customers
Always understand customer requirements and satisfy their highest expectations.

Be close to our customers at all levels, include them in activities that drive optimum solutions, and focus on helping them achieve success in their business.

Be very easy to do business with.

Merit such customer confidence that they will single source with us wherever possible. Be fanatical about listening, being responsive and following through on commitments, while avoiding any kind of arrogance or indifference.

As a vital element of our value chain, we expect our suppliers to be world class in every regard and we will be proactive in helping them achieve it.

Management
The character of a company is determined by its leadership – their values, competence, energy, ability to work well together and the example they set. We aspire to excellent leadership at all levels.

A chief function of management is to serve subordinates – to set clear goals, encourage initiative, give positive reinforcement, remove roadblocks, secure needed resources (including help from others) and evaluate and recognize progress.

We expect every manager to face reality and act decisively. This requires proper analysis, seeking multiple views and building consensus where appropriate.

In resolving conflict we will work toward “win-win” resolution, regarding both individual worth and our need to continually improve.

We’re committed to increase our leadership capacities through individual growth and the development of others, enabling the company to grow and to adjust to external change.

Technology
Be THE company our industry turns to for innovation, product excellence, technical support and field training.

Product excellence embraces design, performance, reliability, simplicity, serviceability and manufacturability – avoiding costs that cannot be recovered in the marketplace.

Encourage individuals and allocate resources so that rapid technical development and deployment are a way of life.

Require outstanding product designs, manufacturing methods, business processes, machinery, equipment, and parts in order to achieve product quality, low cost and minimal frustration to our employees.

Committed to Growth
We aspire to sustained growth, recognizing the benefits for ownership, employees, customers and the community.

We will pursue internal growth – opportunities that are adjacent to our core business and which add value to our customers, and external growth – opportunities which take us in new directions outside the core business, as long as we do not put the core business at risk.

Further, we fully embrace proven management systems that will enhance our overall capabilities, including Lean and Six Sigma.

We expect individual growth. We will provide opportunities for education and training to complement personal initiative.

Work Environment
We want our work and work relationships to be dynamic, challenging, rewarding and respectful – and all employees to be knowledgeable and well trained, with a strong sense of accountability and personal responsibility.

We anticipate ongoing change, and want change to be viewed as an opportunity, not a threat.

We will foster a culture of innovation throughout the company, encouraging both large and many small improvements.

We want to build on the concept of teams and teamwork, encouraging good communications, mutual support and respect for our fellow employees regardless of position.

Values
Our intention is to be a Christ-centered company, looking to the One described in scriptures as vested with all authority in heaven and earth.

We will conduct ourselves with dignity, adhering to the highest ethical and moral standards.

Our vision can best be achieved by staying focused and privately held, and by not getting too large at any one location.

We will continuously work toward clear, straightforward and sustainable solutions.

We will stay close to our customers and suppliers, and be absolutely on top of our business, avoiding indifference and complacency.

We desire to be known as honorable, reliable, and trustworthy, always willing to go the extra mile for something we believe in.

We don’t apologize for being old-fashioned when it comes to hard work, providing value and keeping commitments.

We want a lean, action-oriented business, avoiding redundancy and bureaucracy. We expect to be modest in our style and conduct.

Profits are important and necessary, but never at the expense of good, long-term business judgment.

Recognizing there are business cycles, we have a high priority to provide employment stability.

We want to be good “corporate citizens” – active in serving others, helping meet human needs in the community and beyond.

We realize we are not an end in ourselves, but a part of God’s larger purposes. As such, we are called upon to work as “unto Him,” to view our business as a trust and to be wise and able stewards of the trust He has placed with us.

We realize we are dispensable at any time in God’s economy, but that it is also possible to conduct ourselves in such a way as to please Him and find His continuing favor.

How does a scroll compressor work?

Copeland scroll compressors work with one scroll orbiting in a path defined by a matching fixed scroll. The fixed scroll is attached to the compressor body while the orbiting scroll is coupled to the crankshaft. The orbiting motion creates a series of gas pockets traveling between the two scrolls. On the outer portion of the scrolls, the pockets draw in gas then move it to the center of the scroll where it's discharged. As the gas moves into the scroll's center, the temperature and pressure increase to the desired discharge pressure.

Empire Comfort Systems: A Company Perspective

Family Owned Since 1932
A Full Line of Gas-Fired Products for the Independent Dealer
Made in the USA
ECS_ProductHistory_Timeline

Empire – A Family-Owned Tradition
Empire Comfort Systems grew out of a small sheet metal shop founded by Henry Bauer in 1911 in the city of Belleville, Illinois. Formally incorporated on August 26, 1932, Empire Stove Company produced sheet metal heaters that took advantage of the increasing availability of natural gas.

While the company has weathered the ups and downs of economic downturns, wars, labor strife, fires, and societal changes, the Bauer family has remained the one constant.

The family tradition continues. Nick Bauer and Jane Bauer represent the fourth generation of Bauers at Empire Comfort Systems – making this a continuously family-operated business since 1932.

The Products – Affordable, Efficient & Artful Heating Solutions
Empire has a tradition of listening to dealers and their customers. From early floor furnaces (a forerunner to central heating systems) to console heaters to wall furnaces, to gas fireplaces and log sets, to the super-efficient Mantis fireplace system, Empire has adapted to market requirements.

Empire was the first to market vent-free heaters equipped with an Oxygen Depletion Sensor (now standard on all vent-free products in the U.S.). In the 1980s, Empire became the first to market a gas-fired heater that achieves 80-percent efficiency, and in 2006, Empire marketed the first vented gas fireplace to achieve 90-percent efficiency. Today’s heater and hearth offerings cover a wide spectrum of gas-fired products including:

Vented, Vent-Free, and B-Vent Heaters and Fireplaces
Vented and Vent-Free Log Sets
Fireplace Inserts and Cast Iron Stoves
In 2002, the company purchased manufacturing rights to Broilmaster Premium Gas Grills. The addition of this line helped keep employees working during the off-peak season for heaters and fireplaces, and it gave our sales force an added tool for calling on customers. The Broilmaster brand enjoys unmatched owner loyalty due to the grill’s exceptional performance and on the lifetime warranty on most critical components. Empire still makes replacement parts for grills manufactured more than 30 years ago. We created new grills to expand the appeal of the Broilmaster brand – including infrared models and slow cookers. In 2013, we introduced the Independence, a charcoal grill backed by Broilmaster’s legendary durability.

Made In USA – Providing Opportunity for Employees & Suppliers
Empire’s heaters, fireplaces and grills are assembled at the company’s two manufacturing facilities in Belleville, Illinois, just outside of St. Louis.
Whenever possible, the company gives preference to North American suppliers.

The Friedrich Legacy
The Friedrich family name has a rich heritage intertwined into the fabric and history of the city of San Antonio. From the Buckhorn Saloon to Friedrich Wilderness Park, to the San Antonio Zoo, to Friedrich Air Conditioning; the Friedrichs’ innovation, ingenuity, and philanthropy made its mark on this great city and over a hundred years later, their legacy lives on.
Ed Friedrich founded ‘Friedrich’ in 1883 in San Antonio, Texas. Ed Friedrich was a craftsman who designed furniture from the horns of longhorn cattle and later produced other handcrafted products like store fixtures, wood billiard tables and fine, carved cabinetry. Many of his pieces were used in his brother Albert’s Buckhorn Saloon. But Ed was also an innovator and inventor. He recognized a need for food preservation and developed one of the first refrigeration systems, ultimately setting the course for the company’s 100+ year legacy of cooling the most valuable product of all - people.
From refrigeration to air conditioning
By 1950, Friedrich had become one of the world’s largest manufacturers of commercial refrigeration equipment. To capitalize on its reputation as an industry leader, the company expanded into room air conditioners. The first 500 floating air window units came off the assembly line in 1952 and sales began to climb.
That was only the starting point for many firsts in Friedrich’s history of HVAC innovation. From the introduction of ductless split systems in the US to launching the first room air conditioner with electronic controls, to the first Wi-Fi enabled smart room air conditioner - decades later and still based in San Antonio, Friedrich remains one of the most recognized room air conditioning brands, known for innovation, commercial-grade durability and energy efficiency.
In 2006, Friedrich began production at a new, state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in Monterrey, Mexico, making it the sole remaining North American manufacturer of room air conditioners. In late 2010, after almost 40 years at 4200 Pan Am Expressway in San Antonio, Texas, Friedrich Air Conditioning moved its headquarters into 22,000 square feet of light-filled space at the Union Square II Building at 10001 Reunion Place.
New products showcase innovation, energy conservation
With a commitment to innovation and a focus on continual improvement, Friedrich sets the bar high to offer some of today’s best-performing air conditioning solutions. That commitment is what led Friedrich to build its own state-of-the-art Design and Development Center (DDC), adjacent to its San Antonio headquarters – one of the only air conditioning companies to make such a strong commitment to onsite testing, quality control, certification, and product innovation. It is at the Friedrich DDC where the company’s leading experts work to develop, test and raise product standards for energy efficiency, sound reduction, performance reliability and much more.
For Friedrich, that close attention to detail has paid off and today, the company is proud to offer best-in-class A/C solutions for both commercial and residential customers.
Friedrich room air conditioners, including Kühl, WallMaster, and Chill, are establishing a new category standard, with innovations in control, customization, quality, efficiency and design. Friedrich Hazardgard has earned a strong reputation for being able to handle some of the toughest indoor environments in the world. Beyond room A/C units, Friedrich recently introduced a top-performing ductless system with exceptionally efficient heating and cooling capabilities, giving commercial and residential customers more options than ever before.

Friedrich’s leadership includes providing top-performing air conditioning solutions for lodging and multifamily properties, thanks to its pioneering VRP® (Variable Refrigerant Packaged) Heat Pump system introduced in 2017 and the new Friedrich FreshAire™ PTAC system launched in 2018. Based on energy-efficient inverter compressor technology, these award-winning innovations mark a first for the HVAC industry, delivering outstanding indoor air quality and solving issues such as combating humidity without the need for larger, more complex systems. Along with Friedrich’s popular Vert-I-Pak® series, these products provide the most complete range of top-quality solutions for all types of lodging and multifamily facilities.

Many Friedrich lines have energy-saving and smart home features like programmable thermostats and timers, and remote energy-efficient management capabilities that can reduce costs. In addition to its own efforts at energy conservation, Friedrich is a proud partner of ENERGY STAR®, one of the world’s leading programs for promoting energy-efficiency and sustainability.
Friedrich Air Conditioning – A heritage of quality without compromise
Since its founding in 1883, Friedrich Air Conditioning Co. has had one manufacturing standard – quality without compromise.

Today, Friedrich is recognized as the top brand of specialty air treatment products for the worldwide market, offering differentiated solutions for room air conditioning, dehumidification, and air purification.

Ed Friedrich’s invention and the company’s commitment to quality without compromise sparked what would become 135 years of steady growth and development for this legendary San Antonio business.

Our History
Howard Stanley Hart was an entrepreneur, inventor, industrialist, and builder. One of Hart's many inventions was a steel heating register that proved superior to traditional heavy cast-iron models. In partnership with Norman P. Cooley, Hart established the Hart & Cooley Manufacturing Company in New Britain, Connecticut in 1901. This new company became the first in the nation to manufacture warm-air registers from stamped steel, a product line that gained instant success.

In the Roaring Twenties, Hart & Cooley expanded their register business to Holland, Michigan, where they opened a manufacturing facility. By the early 1930s, Hart & Cooley was the world's largest producer of warm-air registers. The Holland plant grew and soon featured unmatched facilities for research and manufacturing.

WWII required American companies to help the military, and Hart & Cooley was no exception. During these years, the company worked three shifts on a 24-hour basis to produce watertight shipboard electrical boxes and 60-millimeter mortar shells instead of their usual HVAC products. During the Korean War, the mortar dies and special presses were brought out once more to support the troops.

During the second half of the century, Hart & Cooley expanded into many other products lines, winning Michigan's Achievement of the Year honors for a developing a line of Type-B vent for gas-fired appliances. This was followed closely with the development of all-fuel chimney systems. Thereafter, to further expand their product offering, Hart & Cooley acquired several manufactures of flexible air ducting.

Hart & Cooley celebrated a centennial anniversary in 2001 and relocated its headquarters to Grand Rapids, Michigan six years later.

Today, we remain a respected leader in the air distribution products industry and are committed to supporting our customers and their businesses with high quality products and service.

How Solstice Keeps a Lot of Things Cool
Thanks to science, many of the latest technologies are better for the environment and more efficient than ever
June 25, 2019

Consider this: What would happen if our ability to refrigerate disappeared?

Take your local supermarket. It likely has fruit from California, corn from Iowa and beef from Texas. You can enjoy this fresh food from thousands of miles away because it’s been delivered in refrigerated trucks. Without refrigeration, local grocery stores would only be able to sell dry goods or locally farmed foods – that means saying goodbye to the frozen dinners 128.67 million Americans consumed in 2017.
Grocery stores freezer cases, car air conditioning, home insulation and aerosol sprays all have powerful forces working behind the scenes. The unifying factor? It’s known as Solstice – fluorinated compounds that keep food fresh longer, protect homes from extreme weather, reduce emissions, and propel industries into the future.

With an increased interest in the use of solutions that are better for the environment, hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs) are being phased out in many parts of the world. Solstice helps, allowing up to 16 percent lower energy consumption in supermarkets.

It’s pretty cool. Literally.

Here is what it does:

1. Cools cars when it's hot
Many automobile manufacturers use Solstice yf in vehicle air conditioners. It has a 99.9 percent lower Global Warming Potential (GWP) than the refrigerant it replaces. European environmental legislation required new cars to use low-GWP refrigerants and adheres to the requirement. It also offers the best combination of energy efficiency, safety and ease of customer conversion.

2. Cools food in supermarkets
Supermarket chains worldwide have opted to use Solstice N40 refrigerant to increase energy efficiency and minimize environment impact. It offers a GWP that is 60 percent less than the refrigerant it is designed to replace. It is the most widely accepted, lowest GWP, nonflammable replacement for R-404A in stores worldwide, with more than 20,000 supermarkets adopting the refrigerant.

3. Cools (and warms) homes
Solstice LBA can be used as an ingredient in closed-cell spray foam to insulate homes and buildings. It has minimal impact to the environment and the insulation keeps conditioned air inside, making homes and buildings more energy efficient.

4. Cooler for the environment in aerosol products
Solstice Propellant can be found in industrial aerosols such as tire inflators and pressure dusters and beauty products such as aerosol hair color and skin care. It is non-ozone-depleting, nonflammable and has an ultra-low-global-warming-potential.
